1890 112th Anniversary of the Evacuation of Valley Forge medal. White metal, 35 mm. Baker J-195var, HK-126. Mint State. Ex. Steve Tanenbaum, whose accompanying ticket noted that this is "unlisted in white metal." Untoned and fully brilliant, with brightly prooflike fields on both sides. Some light hairlines are seen, mostly confined to the field around Washington's portrait, but no bad marks or other issues. One of the more unusual anniversaries in either the Baker book or the So-Called Dollar corpus, the 112th anniversary is reminiscent of the 38th anniversary commemorative of the Korean War, except that the number 112 doesn't particularly mean anything in connection with Valley Forge. The rendition of Washington's Headquarters, still standing at the intersection of PA 23 and PA 252, is nicely rendered and accurate. A handsome and fairly scarce piece.
