1876 New York Seventh Regiment / Centennial Exposition medal. White metal, 45 mm. Baker-435. Mint State. A scarce and interesting Centennial medal, struck to mark the appearance of New York's famed Seventh Regiment at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. This medal exists as a hanging badge in silver and bronze, and also has a non-suspended medal, as here, in white metal and bronze. It is scarce in any form, but avidly sought not only as a Centennial production, but also as a medallic portrait of Washington. This example shows some light handling in the fields, but remains untoned and highly reflective. A very appealing piece of interest to Civil War enthusiasts, New York City collectors, and Washingtoniana devotees.
