Details

1835 Bust Half dollar engraved with "Rep. To / R.W.G.L. / of the World / I.O.G.T. / OREGON / 1882" over global longitude and latitude lines. Host coin Fine or so with some light marks and traces of solder at 3-4:00 and 9-10:00 where once mounted as a pin. An unusual relic from an annual meeting of the Independent Order of Good Templars (I.O.G.T.) under the jurisdiction of the Right Worthy Grand Lodge of the World (R.W.G.L.), held in Charleston, South Carolina on May 23, 1882. Aside from the obvious appeal to collectors of Masonic or temperance material (and perhaps super-specialists in Masonic temperance lodges), this piece's appeal lies in its unusual state of origin and desirable undertype. I can't recall offering a love token with an Oregon origin (say that five times fast) before. Anything engraved, countermarked, or otherwise accomplished atop a Bust half is likewise certain to find interest.
