Chocolate Brown EF Club Rays Fugio Copper

SOLD

Details

1787 Fugio copper. Newman 3-D. Rarity-3. Club Rays. EF-40 (PCGS). A very pretty example, with choice glossy chocolate brown surfaces. The obverse is smooth, well detailed, and very appealing, with just the lightest crust around the devices that bespeaks natural originality. The reverse also shows excellent eye appeal and surface quality, with just a little harmless verdigris, an old toning spot in the ring at 7:00, and some inconsequential old toned scratches near the base of the reverse. A single little dig is present just inside the rings near 9:00. The Club Rays type is notably tougher to find in top grades that the Pointed Rays type. None were included in the Bank of New York hoard, and (while there may be some on the pop reports) Unc coins are essentially unheard of. This major Redbook type is often included in major collections in conditions far less attractive than this one.
